Let’s talk about immigration, ‘shithole’ countries and a ‘shithole’ president

In November 2017, the Trump Administration announced its refusal in renewing the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for 60,000 Haitians who relocated following the disastrous 2010 earthquake that devastated much of its capital, Port-au-Prince.

Then in a January 2018 meeting with lawmakers discussing immigration and TPS for Haitians, Africans and El Salvadorans Trump asked the question,“Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?”

According to some participants at the meeting, Trump also expressed his preference of allowing more residents from Norway to enter and thought that more immigrants from Asian countries should be welcomed.

Ironically, the New Yorker reported that Haitians and Romanians are the top workers at Trump’s shithole Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Fl. In fact, foreigners under TPS status are used for cheap labor.

Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor … to Pilfer and Pick On

Even though, most Haitian refugees immigrated to Florida are grossly under-represented, they have become an integral developing the rich, culture and Latin American landscape of the state. As well, they contribute to growing the economy.

It has been these 60,000 Haitians from the almost 11 million who live in Haiti, who send money home to a country that is the poorest in the Western hemisphere. Their remittances assist in developing a country that many American agencies, like American Red Cross, failed to do after the 2010 earthquake.

Yet and still, foreign non-profits, many from the United States, pilfered $13 billion in aid, implemented U.N. Peacekeepers who created a cholera outbreak by dumping their shit in waterways that were drinking sources for the Haitians and ultimately left the country in shambles.

The Trump Administration continues to create a legacy of picking on the weak, and those he thinks might not have the platform, support or power; such as black women, women in general, immigrants, Muslim and people of color. It seems that his tactics are to select an easy fight, but in every battle, be it big or small, everyone walks away with scars.

If anything, Trump’s shithole ideas and mouth are the issue.
