Briefly serving as national security adviser to U.S. President Donald Trump, Michael Flynn plead guilty for lying to the F.B.I. about conversations with Russia’s ambassador on matters regarding Israel. He enters into a please, agreeing to cooperate with authorities.
Jared Kushner, son-in-law to POTUS, is said to have instructed Michael Flynn to contact Russian Ambassadors regarding a UN Security Council resolution on Israel during the last days of Obama’s presidency.
Flynn says that Kushner, who led the Trump transition team at the time, requested Flynn to talk to a Russian ambassador about delaying or thwarting the resolution, which condemned Israel for building settlements in Palestinian territory. To conduct affairs as Administration before entering office is a violation of the Logan Act, legislation passed in 1799 law that bars private citizens from interfering in diplomatic affairs.
Flynn is the fourth person connected to POTUS presidential campaign to be under criminal investigation or charged. His plea occurred in a special counsel investigating any links or coordination between Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign and the Russian government’s interference.
Former FBI Director Robert Mueller serves as special counsel.
