Georgina Bailey of Teas by G builds cannabis drinking company one teabag at a time | The Light Series

It has been a busy year for Georgina Bailey who launched CDB beverage company in Harlem. The mompreneur and creative keeps her grind going one teabag at a time. Now as Ark Republic’s first small business partner, we hope you enjoy her beverages as much as we do.

In 2012, my sister, Diane, was diagnosed with late stage ovarian cancer.  Her chemotherapy treatments often rendered her nauseous for days. Additionally, her tumors hurt regularly.

Before the diagnosis, Diane would enjoy a “little green” with her friends. During her cancer treatment, when she could stomach it, she would eat tiny slices of cannabis-infused brownies. However, without a consistent way to measure dosage, finding alternative routes of ingestion became a priority.

So, she asked me if it was possible to make her cannabis dosage into a tea. With a little experimentation and guidance from her Jamaican Grandmother’s  “green roots tea,” we settled on what is now known as Teas by G.

I found great pleasure in teabag-making, so I continued to make tea bags for Diane, as well as  for her close circle of friends to enjoy. The tea bags allowed Diane to comfortably, and confidently choose the correct amount of medicine to combat her symptoms. She used G’s Teas until she passed away in February of 2014.

For me, success looks like expansion. Now, G’s Teas have our eyes set on becoming a franchise, thus enabling others with the opportunity to build generational wealth. My success is their success. There’s room at the table for all of us.

I love what I do, and some days it’s hard, but what keeps me going is the desire to contribute to society in a positive. The desire to see others flourish. The desire to heal. Plus I like the checks ?
