13-year-old Gianna Bryant was in downed helicopter with her father, NBA legend, Kobe Bryant as they headed for basketball camp.

Kobe and his daughter, Gianna were headed for the retired NBA star’s “Mamba Academy,” a basketball training facility in nearby Thousand Oaks, California when his privately-chartered helicopter transporting them caught fire. LA County Firefighters say that the helicopter crashed into a Calabasas hillside around 10 a.m. on Sunday morning.

In his retirement, Bryant became an Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) coach and started attending NBA games after his daughter, Gianna, expressed deep interests in basketball. Nicknamed, Gigi, Gianna is Kobe’s third daughter, and was part of a girl’s AAU basketball team in which her father coached.

Mamba Sports academy is a multi-sport training facility that services 50,000 athletes, both youth and adults. Bryant shared four daughters with his wife Vanessa—Natalia, Gianna, Bianca, and their newborn Capri.
