The final discussion in Ark Republic’s roundtable on protests around George Floyd’s death and the series of police killings before, centers guests’ on-the-ground lens of protests.

Ashley Hinds is from Brooklyn. She graduated with a B.S in Public Health and currently works in Clinical Research development in Durham, North Carolina. As well, she works in an alumni affinity group for her alma mater to address university issues impacting past and present

Jessica Manrriquez is a queer Chicana educator specializing in the pre-Columbian Southeast. She has over a decade of experience in grassroots queer and racial justice movement work in Mississippi and throughout the southeast.

Mikel Arrindell is a substance abuse therapist living and working in Boston. He is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. FA-14

Lisa Durden is an outspoken, sought-after, television personality and subject matter expert in the areas of pop-culture, politics and social issues. Lisa’s voice is her activism, which lead to a successful career behind the camera as an award-winning director/producer in television and film. In 2005, Ms. Durden launched Lisa Durden Unlimited Productions, a Multi-Media Company, headquartered in the State of New Jersey, that specializes in creating award-winning content across various platforms for television, film, the web and live audiences. The organization’s mission is to create quality programming about underserved communities and to tell compelling stories, with big, entertaining, characters.

Her recent projects include: Assistant Director of the Verizon PSA, ‘Conversations With Mom’; Producer of  short film Paris Blues in Harlem; Co-Producer of the provocative, feature film TITLE VII; Conceived & Produced the award-winning PBS Maya Angelou Film’s successful Live Twitter Chat which garnered 8 Million Impressions; the former Broadcast Manager with the Black Public Media (NBPC), AfroPoP Series, which celebrates the cultural and historical growth that has occurred in the last generation using films tailored to a world audience from insightful, artful and often unique local perspectives; Producer of ImageNation’s annual, star studded Revolution Awards. 

She also served as Associate Producer of the award winning PBS’ feature documentary, Soul Food Junkies (Director: Byron Hurt); Associate Producer of the critically acclaimed, Sundance Channel’s, 5 part docu-series, Brick City 1 (Director: Mark Levin & Executive Producer: Forest Whitaker); Associate Producer of the upcoming POV 2 part docu-series, The Newark Project, about education reform in Newark, NJ; Curator of the annual Reel Sister Of The Diaspora Film Festival & Lecture Series and Production Director of The star-studded Reel Sisters Awards. She’s currently attending the School Of Visual Arts MFA Social Documentary Program, to pursue her Masters Degree and make the pivot to Directing.
