Essence Festival might not happen this year.

In 2018, the long-standing cultural media enterprise and adjoining street fete, The Essence Festival was sold to Liberian-born entrepreneur and Sundial Media Group executive chairman Richelieu Dennis. Before that, it was owned by Time Inc, a major white-owned, multimedia company, who purchased it in 2005. Within the last years, there has been rolling concerns and critique on how the annual event, The Essence Fest, operates, and has deteriorated significantly. Dr. Sherise, Dame Crawford and Dr. Kaia Shivers are discussing the issues.
