The By Any Means movie, staring Mark Wahlberg and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is labled as a “historical thriller” and is based around the investigation into the assassination of Mr. Dahmer on January 10, 1966. The Dahmer family says that the movie is in fact, historically inaccurate, and most egregiously, uses the murder of their patriarch to paint a grossly different depiction of what really happened after Mr. Dahmer’s death and FBI’s actions in finding the killers.

Ark Republic spoke to Dennis Dahmer, who spearheads the campaign to make Paramount Pictures, and the movie’s executive producer, more accountable in telling the truth about the real history behind the By Any Means Movie.

Dennis Dahmer is a Retired businessman who returned to Mississippi to take back up the family enterprise of farming. His father, Mr. Vernon F. Dahmer’s, 30 years of Civil Rights work was around enfranchising Black folk, namely through education, political action and most notably, voting.

But, what made him different from other prominent Civil Rights leaders who promoted non-violence at the time, was his strong stance for self-defense. And everyone, even his fiercest enemies, knew this.

In the early morning of January 10, 1966, carloads full of armed Klu Klux Klan attacked the Dahmer home and nearby grocery store with a barrage of gunfire and firebombs. Mr. Vernon F. Dahmer, ruthlessly and very skillfully shot back.

Using his ample supply of rifles and pistols stashed throughout the family home, and his acumen as a hunter and outdoorsmen, he ended up successfully forcing the Klan to retreat, which also allowed his family to escape unscathed. His son, Dennis Dahmer was one of the children who slept in the house on the the night of the attack, and fled to safety with his mother, Ms. Ellie Dahmer, who is still alive today at 101 years old.

However, the activist remained inside the house during the battle. In the gunfight, he sustained injuries, dying later that morning from smoke inhalation and burns.

The brutal incident gained local and national press, and ended up a federal case, of which several of the Klan members involved who were evidentially indicted and found guilty.

The Dahmer family says that the By Any Means movie tells a different story. Now, they are protesting with a petition and spreading the word. Click here for the petition.
