Ark Republic launches Major Collaborative Project covering 2017 Hurricanes

Newark, N.J. (August 22, 2018) — Media start up, Ark Republic, prepares to inaugurate its signature reporting initiative, a major collaborative project (MCP) titled, “The Hurricane Trifecta: One Year Later.” The MCP explores the massive storms that tore through the Caribbean, Central America and parts of the US, in 2017.

The MCP is a 2-week-long multimedia series running exclusively on Ark Republic’s website, starting Monday, August 27 then concluding Thursday, September 6, with a live panel discussion at Express Newark from 6:30-8:30 pm. Express Newark is located at 54 Halsey Street, Newark, NJ.

“For the past year, we’ve been posing this question to each other and our readers, ‘What does revolutionary media look like to you?’ The MCP is a key answer. We’ve recruited journalists, experts, storytellers and podcast hosts to provide a multi-angle narrative that gives a complex, yet full-bodied account of the hurricanes,” said founder and editor-in-chief, Kaia Shivers.

Through a call for proposed stories to over 200 people, Ark Republic enlisted over a dozen storytellers with 20 pieces of multimedia. From emergency aid to displacement and recovery, the stories will be told in English with selected reporting in Spanish.
